Proper Procedure for a
QUICK STOP
The Quick Stop is designed to test you ability to ACT in an emergency situation.  The
examiner will tell you to take you vehicle up to approximately 20 miles per hour.  The
examiner will tell you to stop, but will do in a soft voice.  REMEMBER THIS IS AN
EMERGENCY STOP!  Press your brake down hard, but do not allow the tires to skid or
squeal.  This will cost you points.  You will need to stop within 50 feet or less.

If you are using drum brakes or disk brakes, do what is called "FANNING If you are using
drum brakes or disk brakes, do what is called "FANNING YOUR BRAKE".  In other words if
you feel the vehicle begin to slide, ease up on the brake and push/release quickly and
keep pressing the brake pedal further down as the vehicle slows.

However, if you are using ANTI-LOCK brakes, press it down and hold it.  It should not slide
or skid because a computer is grabbing and releasing much faster that you ever could.

You can steer with the anti-lock brakes better than with other brakes.
